Chelmsford South

Chelmsford South Division is made up of 3 Districts:

  • Hylands
  • Moulsham
  • Great Baddow & Danbury

We are also very lucky to have an extremely supportive Trefoil Guild who meet regularly and are always willing to step in and help units and at District or Division events.

Hylands District has 12 units which are based in the villages of Roxwell, Writtle, Ingatestone and Mountnessing.  There is 1 Rainbow Unit (Writtle), 6 Brownie Packs (all 3 villages), 3 Guide Units (not in Roxwell) and 2 Ranger Units (not in Roxwell). We are pleased to announce that Brownies will be reopening in Mountnessing in January.  Hylands is also very fortunate to have a Friends of Guiding group who are a great support to the district and its members.

Moulsham District has 11 units which cater for girls living in Moulsham Lodge and Galleywood.  There are 2 Rainbow units, 5 Brownie Packs, 3 Guide Units and 1 Ranger Unit.

Great Baddow & Danbury has 18 units which are based in the villages of Great Baddow, Sandon, Bicknacre, Danbury, East Hanningfield & Little Baddow.  There are 4 Rainbow Units (not currently in Sandon or Little Baddow), 9 Brownie Packs (not currently East Hanningfield), 4 Guide Units (not currently in Little Baddow or East Hanningfield) and a District Ranger Unit.

[object Object]In January members of the Senior Section (Rangers & Young Leaders) attended Winter Camp at Gilwell and spent a weekend knee deep in mud trying new activities and meeting new people.

Moulsham District celebrated Thinking Day with an activity event for all sections based on “the right to be me”.  A great day was had by all.

[object Object]43 guides attended a Division Funday at Riffhams the County Campsite in Danbury.  They all tried their hand at fire lighting and cooking dampers as well as creating pictures from orienteering instructions. They painted wind chimes, tried a variety of circus skills, made mini rafts, laid trails and completed different crafts.  30 of the guides managed to complete all the activities offered on the day and were rewarded with a Riffhams badge.

International Opportunities

As a Division we actively encourage and support all of our members in taking advantage of the amazing international opportunities Girlguiding has to offer.  Over the last 2 years this has include members going to: Canada, Mexica, Switzerland, Denmark, Germany, Mongolia and the World Scout Jamboree.  We are very proud of our commitment to helping girls and adults take part in these often life changing events.  We already have 4 members signed up to go to Malaysia and Borneo in 2009.

Future Events

The Brownie’s will come together to battle it out to win the Martin Shield by a completing a series of basis all themed around Christmas.

Later this year will see the Rainbows joining together to Celebrate their 21st Birthday and many Guides, Senior Section members and Leaders will be off to the Essex International Jamboree.
