Jack Petchey Award News

The last 6 months or so have been unusual to say the least with face to face meetings being cancelled for the first time in the history of Girlguiding!

We were able to give 18 awards in March but the June round did not take place because of the pandemic.  We are very hopeful that we can make awards in October but obviously to do so, we need nominations.

We are aware that there have been many leaders working hard to maintain contact with their girls using Facebook, Zoom etc and girls who have continued to take part in guiding activities whenever and however they have been able to.

We have 18 awards for the 11 to 25 year old age range to give out and 2 for leaders.  As we hope you are all aware the 18 awards are for £250 to spend on the unit and the leader awards are for the chance of getting up to £750 to spend.

Nominate the 18 to 25 year olds working to keep their units in touch and functioning, for community work – maybe they were out helping to shop for vulnerable people, delivering medicine or perhaps they were keyworkers continuing to support us all.

The 11 to 17 age range can be nominated for work within their community as well as guiding participation/enthusiasm over the lockdown period.

Nomination form

The 2 leader awards are designed to recognise the efforts of those who support the young people within our organisation. They enable us to publicly honour the dedication and commitment of our Leaders and volunteers – particularly recognising those ‘who go the extra mile’ to support young people.  So, this will be the adult who has worked tirelessly to keep contact with her girls and to keep guiding functioning in her unit.  Please use the leader nomination form for this.

We must stress that the JPF work with the 11 to 25-year age range and therefore it is only members/leaders of guide and ranger units who can be nominated for these awards.

All completed nomination forms should be sent to the County office by Friday 23rd October 2020.

This year’s Awards Ceremony which was booked for Wednesday 4th November will now not take place.  We will let you all know as soon as we do when either a re-arranged date has been set or JPF have informed us of their intentions regarding ceremonies.
