Term of Office: 01 January 2008 until 31 December 2010

Key Purpose

County Centenary Champions are key to the successful flow of information between the Centenary Management Group and Counties.  Champions will receive regular communication from the Centenary Management Group and will pass this information to County members as appropriate. Champions will also communicate County Centenary information to the Centenary Management Group and other Champions, as appropriate.

Key responsibilities

  • To attend a Centenary Champions Launch event in early 2008*
  • To receive information from the Centenary Management Group and pass it on as appropriate within county.
  • To receive information from her Country or region and pass it on as appropriate within county.
  • To keep the Centenary Management Group informed of County centenary celebrations and any related issues.
  • To keep the County Commissioner and her team appraised of matters relating to the Centenary celebration.
  • To liase with the County Commissioner and County PR Adviser(s) regarding media interest relating to the Centenary.
  • To enthuse County members and others to participate in the Centenary celebrations, both locally and beyond.
  • To encourage the use of the Girlguiding UK Centenary website, with where possible a link from a County website.

Essential Skills/Knowledge

  • Effective communicator using a variety of methods including electronic communication
  • Positive approach to Guiding
  • Ability to recognise and meet deadlines
  • Regular access to a PC and able to use electronic communication methods

  • Pro-active approach to involving others
  • Reliable and conscientious

Additional information to note:

  • This role will provide an opportunity to gain experience of a role at County level
  • It is hoped that County Centenary Champions will be co-opted onto County Executives for the duration of their appointment
  • It is suggested that County Centenary Champions do not hold any other County/Regional appointment or other significant role but may be a members of a local Centenary committee
  • It is not the responsibility of the Centenary County Champion to lead the planning and delivery of all County centenary celebrations
  • All County Centenary Champions will be asked to attend a launch event in March 2008 where they will be updated on all the Girlguiding UK Centenary plans, help to develop a communications strategy, and receive resources to assist in promoting the celebrations. The dates for these events are 8th, 15th, and 29th March 2008 each at a different venue around the UK. Details will be notified as soon as possible so that people can hopefully attend the one most convenient to them. Reasonable travel expenses will be paid, and there will be no charge for the event.

Team Leader: Sandy Kinnersley, Centenary Champions Lead Volunteer
Sandy is the County Centenary Champions Co-Ordinator, and a member of the Centenary Management Group. As the title suggests, her role will be to liase with the County Centenary Champions, to help them to enthuse County members and others to participate in the Centenary celebrations, both locally and beyond.
