Young Leader Adviser
A County Young Leader Adviser is:
Appointed for an initial term of three years and may be reappointed for a further period of up to two years; this is not automatic and the usual term of appointment is three years.
The Young Leader Adviser is part of the County Senior Section Committee and as such reports directly to the County Senior Section Co-ordinator.
This role can be shared.
Functions can include:
- Maintaining relationships throughout the County.
- Promoting the ethos of Guiding throughout the County.
- Collating and recording details of Young Leaders within the County.
- Distributing information regarding opportunities of further skill sets.
- Providing information and contact details concerning the Leadership Qualification Scheme on the Young Leader's 16th birthday.
- If appropriate suggest a mentor for the Young Leader while undertaking her LQS.
- Attending Senior Section Committee meetings when called by the County Senior Section Co-ordinator.
- Travelling around the County to visit Young Leaders within their units may be necessary from time to time.
- Independent travel or the means to travel needs to be available as a result of this requirement.
- Arranging meetings for Young Leaders around the County to meet together, exchange ideas, acquire new skills and to network generally.
- Being a listening ear, sounding board and resource for information in respect of the work being undertaken within the section/unit the YL is attached to.
The Young Leader Adviser should:
- Be in sympathy with the aims and principles of The Guide Association.
- Feel comfortable working with the 14 years and above age group.
- Be a good communicator. Be a good listener. Be enthusiastic.
- Be confident. Have tact, diplomacy and flexibility. Have a sense of humour.
- Have patience and understanding. Understand confidentiality of personal information.
Please note: No-one is expected to have all of these skills at the outset as, many of these skills and qualities will be acquired and developed throughout the appointment term.
