Senior Section Adviser
A Senior Section Adviser is:
Appointed for an initial term of three years and may be reappointed for a further period of up to two years; this is not automatic and the usual term of appointment is three years.
This role can be shared.
Functions can include:
- Promoting Senior Section opportunities to Essex North East Senior Section members.
- Supporting Senior Section units with programme.
- Encouraging older Guide members to become Senior Section members.
- Supporting Senior Section Committee and County teams.
- Visiting units (SS + Guide) – both to support and promote. Travelling around the County to visit Young Leaders within their units may be necessary from time to time. Independent travel or the means to travel needs to be available as a result of this requirement.
- Collating and recording details of Senior Section members and units within the County.
- Providing information and contact details concerning the Leadership Qualification Scheme on Young Leader's 16th birthdays.
- If appropriate suggesting a mentor for the Young Leader while undertaking her Leadership Qualification.
- Being a Mentor to new Senior Section Guiders as required.
- Arranging meetings for Senior Section members around the County to meet together, exchange ideas, acquire new skills and to network generally.
- Distributing information regarding opportunities of further skill sets.
- Assisting or running training sessions for Senior Section Guiders.
The Senior Section Adviser should:
- Feel comfortable working with the 14 years and above age group.
- Maintain relationships throughout the County.
- Promote the ethos of Guiding throughout the County
- Be in sympathy with the aims and principles of The Guide Association.
- Be a good communicator. Be a good listener. Be enthusiastic.
- Be confident. Have tact, diplomacy and flexibility. Have a sense of humour.
- Have patience and understanding. Understand confidentiality of personal information.
Please note: No-one is expected to have all of these skills at the outset as, many of these skills and qualities will be acquired and developed throughout the appointment term.
