Queen's Guide Adviser

Appointed for an initial term of three years and may be reappointed for a further period of up to two years; this is not automatic and the usual term of appointment is three years.

This role can be shared.

Functions can include:

  • Assist any Senior Section member wishing to take part in the Queen’s Guide Award
  • Responsibility for advertising the Queen's Guide Award across the County
  • Meet and discuss the syllabus with the young person wishing to embark on the award
  • Support the young person and assist with ideas and in some cases making them a reality
  • Responsibility for all paperwork from the initial form to completion
  • Make regular contact with all participants to check on their progress and if necessary support them personally or arrange for someone else to do so
  • Assist with the last stage of the award when the presentation of the clauses undertaken is given to the County Commissioner and other invited guests. Ensure that the Record Book is available for signature by the CC at the end of the event.
  • When completed ensure that the Queen's Guide Record book is sent by Registered Mail to GUK for assessment by The Chief Guide
  • Order the Queen's Guide Badge and Certificate from the County Badge Secretary in good time for the presentation
  • Liaise with the successful candidate regarding arrangements for the presentation of the Queen’s Guide Badge and Certificate
  • Provide advice and sign posting to resources
  • Distributing information about opportunities both inside and outside the County – this could be via the County Update or through the Senior Section Meeting whichever is the most efficient way of doing so

The County Queen's Guide Adviser should:

  • Be in sympathy with the aims and principles of Girlguiding UK
  • Be a good communicator. Be a good listener. Be enthusiastic
  • Be confident. Have tact, diplomacy and flexibility.
  • Have a sense of humour.
  • Have patience and understanding.
  • Understand confidentiality of personal information.

Please note: No-one is expected to have all of these skills at the outset as, many of these skills and qualities will be acquired and developed throughout the appointment term.

About The Queen’s Guide Award

  • This Award is open to members of the Senior Section aged 16 to 25. It is the highest award that can be gained in the Senior Section.
  • The award is meant to be as flexible as possible to allow for personal lifestyle changes. It is based on the concepts of personal challenge and participation and gives the chance for personal development through enjoyable activity.
  • The completion of any other award before taking part in the Queen’s Guide Award is not necessary.
