Public Relations Adviser

ROLE:

To ensure that Girlguiding is actively and positively promoted and its reputation enhanced and safeguarded.

Appointed for an initial term of three years and may be reappointed for a further period of up to two years: this is not automatic and the usual term of appointment is three years.

RESPONSIBLE TO:

The County Commissioner 

PERSONAL QUALITIES:

  1. Be a natural communicator both in writing and in face-to-face situations 
  2. Know Girlguiding well, or be able to learn very quickly 
  3. Have a wide range of contacts throughout the community, for example media, business and youth organisations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be a member of the County Executive and ideally all other Committees and advise the County Commissioner and County Executive Committee on public relations matters. 
  • Ensure that Country/Region public relations programmes are implemented throughout the County. 
  • Establish and lead a team of Division Public Relations Advisers, co-ordinate public relations policy and activities in the county, ensure adequate implementation, and monitor and assess results. 
  • Prepare a public relations programme for the County, with an appropriate budget. 
  • Liaise frequently with the Country/Region Public Relations Adviser in order to represent the County public relations team and to report back to the County Commissioner and County Executive Committee. 
  • Represent the County public relations team at County level. 
  • Promote Girlguiding at County level by:
    a) publicising events
    b) co-ordinating or assisting with the production and distribution of publications
    c) media relations
    d) handling crisis communication
    e) displays and exhibitions
    f) co-ordinating or assisting with recruitment and other campaigns
    g) setting up and maintaining a library of audio-visual material
    h) providing speakers with briefing and resource material
    i) improving internal communication throughout the County.
  • Provide and co-ordinate public relations training within the County in co-operation with Programme and Training. 
  • Encourage the appointment of Division Public Relations Advisers and identify the individuals to assist in Public Relations on an ad hoc basis.
  • Any other areas mutually agreed within the County or specifically by you and the County Commissioner.
