Section Adviser - Rainbow, Brownie or Guide
A Section Adviser is:
Appointed for an initial term of three years and may be reappointed for a further period of up to two years; this is not automatic and the usual term of appointment is three years.
This role can be shared.
Functions can include:
- Maintaining relationships throughout the County
- Promoting the ethos of Guiding throughout the County
- Attending County Guiding Development meetings as necessary – these meetings are normally once each school term
- Supporting the unit leaders within the County within the particular section with advice, support and programme ideas
- Where necessary assisting with the Leadership Qualification modules and the provision of one to one trainings if appropriate
- Meeting with the Leadership Co-ordinator to review Leadership training books of your particular section.
- Assisting the County Guiding Development team and County Trainers with the introduction of any new programme material relating to the section
- Upon request attend unit meetings
- Provide advice and sign posting to resources for new qualifications and opportunities for leaders and unit members
- Distributing information about training opportunities both inside and outside the County – this could be via the County Update or through the Guiding Development Meeting whichever is the most efficient way of doing so.
The County Guide or Brownie Section Adviser should:
- Be in sympathy with the aims and principles of Girlguiding UK
- Be a good communicator. Be a good listener. Be enthusiastic
- Be confident. Have tact, diplomacy and flexibility.
- Have a sense of humour.
- Have patience and understanding.
- Understand confidentiality of personal information.
Please note: No-one is expected to have all of these skills at the outset as, many of these skills and qualities will be acquired and developed throughout the appointment term.
